Kelp by ElenionTolto Kelp by ElenionTolto
A bunch of orange kelp lays trailed over piles of rounded beach rocks at the mouth of the Elwha River.

The lighting is perfect to capture the earthy, yet bold, colors.

I've seen this before on my trip out to BC. There is some kelp that have giant hollow balls on the end too. Its really weird stuff.

lol yep, that's this stuff. Silly me thinking it was all over the world, until I posted this picture. You can see one of those balls in the foreground at the very bottom of the picture, though it's pretty blurry there.

Nice shot, the composition is great and the colors really stand out ! Those kelps or whatever look great, almost like some under water creature !

haha thanks! They're even better in the PSD file...but alas, whenever I upload save the files to jpegs or pngs, they seem to lose about half the color range

I love the lines in this picture, and how they come right at you. Though I wish the kelp was focused all the way up to the very front. I can't remember ever seeing kelp that bright before, it's usually more brown isn't it?

I haven't seen such an interesting shot of kelp recently. This is a great way to present it, and the feel of a rocky beach.

I actually really enjoy the middle focus instead of the front. It makes your gaze move on and want to look out at the ocean where the kelp came from.

these always remind me of the tentacles of the creatures in Independence Day (the one with Will Smith) kinda creepy stuff to find on the beach. I really like the orange undertones in this paired with the blues in the background.

I like this better than the black and white. It's very surreal like the kelp goes on forever. Definitely my favorite.

haha. Um. Its a type of algae, that super long stuff that grows in the ocean. a type of seaweed...only stiffer and thicker than most. This stuff is bull kelp and it makes a wicked whip if you ever need one cause it has a big ball on one end and goes to a fine point on the other haha

Great angle and use of the natural lines and curves in the photo making a lovely composition. I must say the atmosphere is a little creepy it looks from another world. It reminds me of War of the Worlds.
